Three species · infinite finishes · Treadline Construction
Treadline was honored to win the Wood Floor of the Year from the National Wood Flooring Association. Our floor features three species of wood (White Oak, Red Oak and Maple) with aluminum inlays in a circular pattern that was custom routed into the floor. Each section of the floor has then received custom color stain and custom finish applied. Each color represents the difference in color application that can vary from species to species along with exhibiting various finish options available. The idea behind the floor was to help illustrate the options available to put customers on flooring that is most likely already in their homes. Our customers have the ability to move from an outdated, traditional look to anything their heart desires! The sky is the limit with stain color and finish!
A floor that moves
like sculpture.
Multi-species inlay medallion · Treadline Construction
This project is a magnum opus, a privilege earned through 160+ hours of painstaking design, problem-solving, and craftsmanship. The initial design and execution were carried out entirely in-house at Treadline Construction.
Starting with raw S4S 1×6 stock, roughly 2,000 strips of 3/16″ were ripped by hand. A full-scale shop mockup was built to map every curve. Using custom jigs, 4-ton handheld hydraulics, clamps, and floor-anchored blocks, the strips were laminated into complex bends; no steam, no water, a process that alone took three weeks.
On site, 3¼″ white oak panels were made, templated, hand-cut, and refined through over 16 hours of belt-sanding and micro-adjustments to achieve final fit. Both the curves and panels were then full-spread glued down. Edges were guide-ripped and finished with a walnut feature strip and a 3¼″ white oak log-cabin border.
The floor's official name is Yggdrasil, the Norse tree of life, an ash tree in which all nine worlds of the ancient Norse cosmos nestle among its branches and roots. Like its namesake, this floor is expansive, deeply rooted, and built to endure.
This work required an extraordinary amount of patience, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving. The result is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. one that we believe will redefine the boundaries of the wood flooring industry.
